The glass and exposed timber structure sits on its own peninsula on Sonora Island, overlooking the ocean, and surrounded by total wilderness. Guests at Sea Lion Pointe can unwind on their own private deck with a roof top hot tub under the stars. The great room has a huge sweeping fireplace, mini grand piano, and opens onto a large terrace with views of the treasured Innes Passage. There is a fully covered outdoor seating area. On the mezzanine level, guests can wind down in the billiards room or snuggle up in the home theatre with adjoining wet bar.

Sea Lion Pointe at our luxury adventure travel resort is now home to one of the largest commissions of BC art. The work of eleven West Coast artists ranging from glass to paint, kelp and woodwork add a cultured sophistication to Sea Lion's natural surroundings. A glass structure featuring seven stellar sea lions by internationally acclaimed Markian Olynyk and poles carved by Philip Gray, a young Tsimshian/Cree artist, is reflective of the ecologically and sensitive environment of Sonora Island.

Marine Lodge

On the rocks, extending out over the water is the Marine lodge, with its navy blues and sunny yellows inspired by sailing and seafaring. Fittingly, ocean views are had from all four bedrooms, three of which include two Queen-sized beds, one of which includes a King-sized bed, all with private ensuites.

Also set above the rolling Yuculta Rapids, the suite’s private deck and hot tub provides a perfect spot for sipping wine and spotting shooting stars.

Archery

Sonora has an outdoor archery range. This range has four shooting stations, set 18-50 meters from the targets, and a covered gazebo.

Bird Watching

The birds of the Discovery Islands are truly marvelous, soaring in open sky, fluttering from branch to branch, wading by the shoreline and swooping over river estuaries. The unique geography of this area creates a myraid of feeding opportunities: the ocean waters teem with plant and animal life, the rocky shorelines are thick with mollusks, and lush, fertile forests cover the island and the mainland.

Boat Excursions

The Discovery Islands provide some of the most amazing wildlife viewing on the Pacific coast. Dozens of bald eagles and other birds swirl over the rapids and swoop down to pluck fish from the whirlpools, while stellar sea lions, Dall's porpoises, and Pacific white-sided dolphins gather in nearby waters to feed. During the summer, killer whales occasionally visit the channels surrounding Sonora Island, offering some of the best whale watching opportunities in the world. Other less common visitors include humpback, grey and minke whales and elephant seals.Our eco adventure and whale watching boat, the Eagle Master, is an open 28ft inflatable boat capable of speeds of 40 knots or 70kms an hour. The Eagle Master carries up to twelve guests and is equipped with a hydrophone and headset system. Headphones enable you to listen to whale songs and other under-sea sounds, as well as the narration of our experienced wilderness guides.

Business Center

Sonora's business center offers five Internet-ready workstations, 4 meeting rooms, all equipped with projection screens, and plentiful plug-ins for visitors' laptops. Complimentary high speed WIFI is available throughout the property. You can also make use of our colour printer, fax machine and scanner.

Fishing

The calm waters and snow capped mountains that surround Sonora Resort provide a truly unique salmon fishing experience. Sonora is situated in a region well protected from open ocean swells, and is surrounded with picturesque wildlife and stunning emerald and turquoise waters. Combined with our state of the art vessels, fishing here couldn't get any more comfortable. In addition to ocean fishing and Fly Fishing Ponds, Sonora offers River Fly Fishing. The central coast of British Columbia offers many trout and salmon-bearing river systems that are accessible by boat from Sonora Resort. Fishing opportunities change throughout the season, with different species available at certain times of the year. Please note that all fly-fishing experiences are catch and release. If are keen to reach even more remote and untouched locations, Sonora also offers Helicopter Fly Fishing. Helicopter transportation allows us to take you to the most spectacular and pristine rivers and lakes in the Pacific Northwest. Fishing these prime locations are an experience that will last a lifetime.

Sonora Resort's games room has something for every taste, from high tech to traditional. Games include shuffleboard, and a pool table. The exclusive home theater is the ideal way to unwind at the end of the day at our luxury wilderness resort. Pick from a wide selection of DVDs, or access satellite programming and settle into one of our twelve custom seats to watch the seven-foot wide screen with THX surround sound. The theater room is also equipped with Playstation 2, Xbox and assorted game titles.

Golf Nearby

You can travel to Storey Creek Golf Course by helicopter, or a combination of boat and bus or seaplane and bus. The Storey Creek Golf Course is situated in a beautiful forest with ponds and salmon streams. It is an 18 hole, par 72 course with all of the amenities, including a pro shop, restaurant and clubhouse.

Hidden wonders you just wouldn't get to see any other way. Pristine rivers and lakes. Optional helicopter access to some of the most spectacular areas in the Pacific Northwest coastal environment is part of the Sonora experience. Hiking Trails

Enthusiasts will enjoy the pristine Florence Lake nestled four kilometers behind the resort at the end of a beautiful, clearly marked hiking trail. The resort supplies maps and bear bells, and if you wish to venture further, one of our experienced hiking guides will be happy to show you around. Sonora Resort also offers Rainforest Hikes.

Every fall, the elusive grizzly bear comes down to the mouth of the River to feed on salmon. This is the grizzly bear that few people get to see: focused, industrious, and relaxed in its natural habitat. During the tour, soak in the natural beauty of the inlet and the cathedral-like rainforest.

Play through on our two very popular golf simulators and the practice green just outside the main lodge. For those looking for a full course, Storey Creek is only a 1.5 hour boat cruise or a short helicopter ride away.

The Tyee Dining Room, Bar and Lounge area is made up of expansive wood floors and luxurious lounges with fireplaces. The dining room harbors a mini grand piano and is bordered by floor to ceiling windows. The Tapas bar and patio, just out front, is where wonderful food, breathtaking views and a magically warm atmosphere epitomizes the spirit of this special place. The sea air and the spectacular sunsets all add an unforgettable dimension to the dining experience.
 
Our Executive Chef, Lukas Gurtner, devises tasting menus each night paired with our sommelier’s hand-picked selection of fine wines from British Columbia and the major wine regions of the world. The son of an accomplished Swiss chef, Lukas launched his own culinary career with an apprenticeship at Victoria's Hotel Grand Pacific. He then moved to the celebrated Laurie Raphael in Montreal, then completed his training under Sonora's previous Executive Chef Terry Pichor, graduating from Chef de Partie to Executive Sous Chef, a position he held for five years. Lukas' philosophy is based on combining fresh, local ingredients with the freshest international food trends.
